The classic styling of white sneakers or the edgier look of black shoes can complete any weekend outfit.
These are two staples in any guy’s closet. Wear them right and you’ll turn heads, wear them wrong and you’ve gone from relaxed and stylish to sloppy and uncool.
How to wear it:
Black athletic shoes look great with jeans any time of the year. Make sure you cuff them so you don’t look like your dad. Gone is the adage that you can’t wear black and blue together. Black is the new black and it goes with everything.
Be careful trying to mix these with shorts. There’s a lot of room for error so is only for the advanced. Try to limit this to dark colored shorts. When the sun goes down, it’s time to trade those shorts in for pants or switch the black shoes for another option.
Spring and summer were made to wear white shoes. They look great with a tan and shorts of just about any color. That’s seems obvious, but here’s where you can spice things up: pair your white sneakers with dark jeans and a nice cotton tee. You’ll have a really clean look that will have you looking great for anything from an afternoon cookout to a date night. Want to dress down at work? Chinos and white sneakers are the way to go.
For the advanced users: the wedding with the casual dress code, white sneakers, dark jeans cuffed, a slim fit button-up shirt, and a blazer. If you didn’t come with a date, you’re leaving with one. (Tie is optional. Either you can wear one or you can be wrong. Besides, you might want that tie later…).
Don’t do it:
White socks. I’ll say it twice. Black shoes and white socks don’t mix.
Just because they’re black doesn’t mean they’re dirt proof. If you don’t want to look like a slob when you wear these to the bar, keep them clean.
Unless it’s 80’s night, white sneakers don’t go with light jeans.
Keep ‘em clean. There are all kinds of products out there to guard your shoes from the elements. Your shoes will stay clean and you won’t have to be afraid of ruining them. A clean pair of white shoes looks like a million bucks.
